Course Requirements

The DACC Health Information Technology (HIT) Program prepares students for dynamic careers in Health Information Management (HIM) through competency-based education and hands-on learning. Accredited by CAHIIM, the program qualifies graduates to sit for the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam administered by AHIMA, a leading credential for high-demand, well-paid roles in on-site and remote healthcare settings.

The program is offered Online or HyFlex, allowing students to attend live virtual sessions or view recorded lectures at their convenience, ideal for balancing work, family, and education.

Beginning in 2025, students can earn embedded or stackable credentials with the two-year degree:

  • Health Data Analyst & CompTIA Data+ (embedded)
  • IHI Quality & Safety Micro-Credential (embedded)
  • HIT Medical Coding Certificate (embedded)
  • Healthcare AI & Information Security Certificate (includes CompTIA Security+) (stackable)
  • Cancer Registry Management Certificate (Oncology Data Specialist preparation) (stackable)

This occupational program is typically not designed to transfer; however, it has articulation agreements with select senior institutions. All courses must be completed with a grade of ā€œCā€ or better.

HITT 125 &250 may be taken in other semesters based on facility availability. Enrollment in developmental classes may increase the length of time it takes to complete associate degree. Purchase 18 month access to VLAB when taking HITT 125 for use in HITT 106 & HITT 235.

BIOL 136 Anatomy and Physiology I must be completed with a grade of "C" or better prior to submitting an application to the program. First time degree seeking students must complete INST101, Success in College, as a requirement for graduation. Program is not eligible for Web Registration. Entrance Requirements: completion of coursework required to enroll in MATH 107 Applied Mathematical Concepts or MATH 108 Intermediate Algebra, or higher level algebra-based math course OR placement by test into MATH 107 Applied Mathematical Concepts or MATH 108 Intermediate Algebra or higher level algebra-based math course.
