Please Read This Important Information Before Filling Out Your Application

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in Danville Area Community College's Health Information Technology (HIT) Program.

This is a two-year associate degree program that begins in the fall of each year. A large portion of the HIT coursework is online. I highly recommend that you visit the DACC website and access the DACC Online link to complete the "Online Assessment System for Internet Students (OASIS)" survey before applying.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to make sure their application and any additional required documentation are received by the Health Information Technology Department by the last Friday in May at noon. The program could fill up before that date so getting these items in as early as possible is advised. Acceptance letters will be mailed out once the program has reached capacity or no later than beginning of June.

There are 3 ways to submit an application:

  1. Access the online application HIT Online Application
  2. Use the following link if your prefer to complete the pdf fillable application HIT Application fillable pdf - Once you complete the pdf, email competed application and transcripts to: k.johnson@dacc.edu
  3. If you prefer to drop off the application you may take it to Kelly Johnson, Director of HIT, in the Mary Miller building room 112, or Katelyn Roberts, Health Information Technology Office Assistant in the Mary Miller Building room 172.

If you are accepted into the program, your name will be forwarded to an academic advisor to enroll you in the HITT 101 Introduction to Health Information Management and the HITT 205 Legal Aspects courses. Passing BIOL 136 Anatomy and Physiology 1 with a “C” or higher is required for program entry. For the other required general education courses, enrolling in them before entering the program is a wise choice. If you wait for acceptance to enroll in those courses they could have limited availability (BIOL 137, BOFF 140, CBUS 150, etc.).

If you have any question or need more information, please email me at k.johnson@dacc.edu

Sincerely,

Kelly Johnson MHIIM, RHIA, ODS, BSRS, RT (S), (VS)

Important Information Pertaining To Admission

  1. The Health Information Technology program is a closed enrollment program (can only enroll in HITT courses if accepted) with a limited acceptance of 15 students each fall.
  2. The Health Information Technology program has an online learning component: therefore students are expected to be comfortable and confident in navigating an online classroom format. This often requires more reading on the part of students, as well as the ability to navigate technology.
  3. It is highly recommended that you go to the DACC website, access the DACC Online Link to complete the "Online Assessment System for Internet Students (OASIS)" survey before applying.
  4. Travel - Please know that HIT students travel to different healthcare facilities when completing the HITT 250 Professional Practice Experience (PPE). Sites may range from as far away as the cities of Champaign IL, Hoopeston IL, Williamsport IN, or Paris IL. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from clinical sites. This could be up to 45 miles from the college. The program reserves the right to send the student to any of the sites the director deems appropriate. The cost of travel will be at the student's expense.
  5. Students employed while in the HIT program are encouraged to negotiate alternate work schedules with their supervisors in advance of admission to the HIT program. The PPE course HITT 250 requires 90 clinical hours. Speak with the HIT program director about the clinical requirement if this is a concern for your work schedule.
  6. Program acceptance for fall will be based on the student's GPA from their transcript, written application, interview questions, and completion of Anatomy & Physiology 136 (BIOL 136). Due to the limited number of spaces available, meeting all the criteria does not guarantee anyone admission to the program.
  7. Applications for fall will be available January through the last Friday in May at noon. The program could fill up before that date so getting these items in as early as possible is advised. Acceptance letters will be mailed out once the program has reached capacity or no later than beginning of June.
  8. After admission to the program, students will be required to complete the following: criminal background check, physical, submit proof of immunizations, signed release of information form, and a ten-panel drug screening, There will be a cost to the student associated with completing this requirement. Deadline for submission will be announced in the acceptance letter.
