Job Market
There are approximately 690 job openings for SLP's in the state of IL. According to the Projection Managing Partnership with the US dept. of Labor, there is also 2 year projection of 5.3% growth in the job market specific to SLPA's.
With so many SLP positions unfilled, schools and clinics will be leaning on SLPAs to fill in gaps and maintain services.
Local Need
Vermilion County has held waitlists of 30 or more identified families waiting to receive early intervention therapy services, while neighboring Champaign County has seen waitlists exceeding 60+ families. SLPAs are a valuable resource in helping our children access highly needed services
Current Programs
Danville Area Community College is the only Associates Degree level SLPA program located within a 100 mile radius of Vermilion County
Opportunities for Students
This program provides another excellent pathway for students interested in careers related to child development, health care, and/or education. It will also provide an excellent stepping stone for those interested continuing education to become a licensed SLP.
Community Impact
This program will have positive longitudinal effects for our community as it relates to increased knowledge of communication development and support for those with communication disorders.
