What is the General Education Core Curriculum (GECC) Certificate?

At Danville Area Community College, the GECC Certificate is a 38-credit block of general education courses that provides a students - whether high school dual credit learners or traditional college students - with a seamless, affordable pathway that transfers in full to all Illinois public universities and many private institutions.

The GECC includes required credits in:

  • Communication
  • Humanities & Fine Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Physical & Life Sciences
  • Social & Behavioral Sciences

Completing the GECC at DACC allows you to transfer as a sophomore and step directly into major-level coursework. This certificate represents about two-thirds of an associate degree and one-third of a bachelor's degree, giving you a strong, efficient start toward your four-year goals.

Who can enroll in GECC courses?

The GECC Certificate is open to:

  • Traditional DACC students beginning their college journey
  • Transfer-bound students who want an affordable, efficient start
  • Dual Credit high school students earning college credit early through classes offered:
    • At their high school
    • Online through DACC
    • On DACC's campus

Dual Credit*: A Pathway to Finishing the Certificate Early

DACC offers high school students the opportunity to complete many or all the certificate requirements through Dual Credit, saving time and significantly reducing cost.

Courses can be completed at your high school, online through DACC, or on DACC's campus.

A sample junior/senior year sequence includes:

  • Rhetoric & Composition 1 & 2
  • Humanities IAI options
  • Life and Physical Sciences
  • Speech (SPCH 101 or 102)
  • Mathematics (IAI transfer-level)
  • Fine Arts and Social Science electives

DACC's average dual credit pass rate is 92%, far exceeding the 15% Vermilion County AP pass rate, making dual credit a strong choice for early college success.
