Certified Nurse Assistant Program Information

Important Please Read

  • Applying to the CNA program is a 2 part process. Therefore, it can take 1-2 months from start to finish.
  • Part 1 of the application is the first part of the process along with meeting one-on-one with the CNA program coordinator.
  • Part 2 of the application begins after you have met with the program coordinator and includes completion of fingerprinting, health physical, TB test, and drug test. You will receive all the required forms and information at the meeting.
  • Applicants who have completed all of part 1 and part 2 will receive first consideration for enrollment in a CNA course.
  • CNA classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis.
    • You will not be approved to enroll unless all forms and testing has been completed with satisfactory results.

Admission Procedure

  1. Complete CNA application and Checklist Part 1
    1. Includes applying to DACC, sending in official transcripts, and scheduling a meeting with the CNA Program Coordinator.
    2. For detailed instructions, please refer to Part 1 of the actual CNA Application and Checklist.
  2. Complete CNA Application and Checklist Part 2
    1. Includes completion of fingerprinting, health physical, TB test(s), and drug test.
    2. You will not receive Part 2 of the Application and Checklist until you have completed Part 1.
  3. Once Part 1 and Part 2 are completed and negative test results are obtained and submitted, then your application is considered complete.
  4. Successful completion of all steps will place students into consideration for the first available class.

Program Completion

  1. Must complete NURS 110 (classroom portion) of class with 82% grade or higher and pass the final exam with an 82% or higher in order to continue to clinicals.
  2. Must pass clinical with a "Satisfactory" grade to complete the entire program and be eligible to sit for the Illinois Nurse Aide Certification Exam.

Other Important Information

  1. Adult applicants must have graduated from high school or obtained their GED.
    1. high school applicants must be at least 16 years old.
  2. Applicants whose first language is not English, must take the TOEFL exam and achieve specific scores in each section (reading 20, listening 22, speaking 26, and writing 20) prior to enrolling.
  3. 100% attendance is required for State certification.
  4. Students must achieve an 82% or higher grade percentage in NURS 110 and pass the final exam with an 82% or above to move on the clinical portion (NURS 111). Failure to meet these minimum grade percentages will result in dismissal from the program.
  5. The program is not eligible for Federal Title IV programs (Pell/Loans) or the Illinois MAP program.
