As a DACC graduate of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program myself, I know the challenges that come with being a student in this program. One of my teaching goals is to be available to my students for questions and be their support in the rough times. I strive to provide them with the knowledge and hands on skills they will need once they begin clinicals. I aim to present the material in my courses in a way that they can understand and apply to the field of sonography. I give many real life examples of challenges that I encountered in my work as a sonographer, and how I was able to overcome those struggles. During lecture, if I am able to share an experience that I had on what is being covered, it helps the students to relate the information to a real life situation and is better retained. In scan lab, we treat each day as if it were a clinical setting, which allows the students to begin to practice the behaviors that will be expected of them while at clinical and can make the transition from the lab to the clinical setting much easier.
