Scholarships For Students

Each year donors in the Danville Area present monetary awards to DACC students. Each of the donors determines the criteria for selection of the scholarship recipients.  Approximately 200 awards are presented  yearly. Recipients acknowledge their Donors at the annual Honors Program held in September. Scholarship applications are available in the DACC Foundation office as well as distributed across campus and at the WIA/JTP "One Stop" location at the Illinois Employment Security office. Orhan Foundation of America

Applications are being accepted for the 2010-2011 academic year January 1, 2010 thru March 31, 2010CASEY FAMILY SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIP  and FOSTER CARE TO SUCCESS SCHOLARSHIP.  These scholarships are awarded based on a combination of merit and need, and funding levels are determined based on cost of attendance and other resources. The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS), funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander Americans, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education, in all discipline areas and a graduate education for those students pursuing studies in mathematics, science, engineering, education, or library science. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the nation's leading organization supporting Hispanic higher education. HSF was founded in 1975 with a vision to strengthen the country by advancing college education among Hispanic Americans-the largest minority segment of the U.S. population. In support of its mission to double the rate of Hispanics earning college degrees, HSF provides the Latino community more college scholarships and educational outreach support than any other organization in the country. Headquartered in San Francisco, HSF has opened regional offices in Southern California, the Southwest, the Northeast, the Southeast, and the Midwest. In addition, HSF launched the Washington, D.C.-based Hispanic Scholarship Fund Institute to generate public partnerships in support of its work.       Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA)
Founded in 1973, OCA is a national organization dedicated to advancing the social, political, and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in the United States. OCA aims to embrace the hopes and aspirations of nearly 12 million Asian Pacific Americans in the United States. The Organization of Chinese Americans, Inc. (OCA) has been provided with funding from the Avon Foundation to fund college scholarships for Asian Pacific American (APA) women who will be entering their first year of college.  Click here for more information.

United Negro College Fund  is a fund-raising consortium of 39 private, fully accredited, four-year, historically black colleges and universities. As an educational assistance organization, The College Fund provides operating assistance to its 39 member colleges and universities, administers over 400 scholarship programs for African American students, provides technical assistance for HBCUs, and conducts research and data collection on African American education. In its 55 year history, UNCF has raised over $1.4 billion to promote higher education achievement in the African American community and has helped to graduate over 300,000 African Americans from undergraduate and graduate programs. The DACC Foundation has received information on the following scholarship opportunity: Tillman Military Scholarships - The Pat Tillman Foundation <http://www.pattillmanfoundation.org/> has announced that the new Leadership Through Action - Tillman Military Scholars program is accepting applications.  Individuals eligible for the Leadership Through Action - Tillman Military Scholars program include veterans and active service members of both pre- and post-9/11 service; service members who wish to start, finish, or further their education; service members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserve); service members pursuing undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, two-year, four-year, public, private, vocational, and trade degrees or certifications; and dependants of service members (children and spouses).   The deadline for applying is May 14.    Applications can be found at this website:  http://www.pattillmanfoundation.org/

Significant SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
are available enabling Illinois community college students to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from McKendree College. McKendree College will provide scholarships valued at $9,000 per year ($18,000 over 2 years) to qualified Illinois community college graduates. In addition, assuming that satisfactory academic progress is maintained, McKendree College is committed to insuring that every scholarship recipient will always have their demonstrated financial need met during their four semesters at McKendree.  Specifically, when combined with other sources of aid, tuition and fees, and room and board will never exceed a family’s ability to pay.  (Based upon the free application for federal student aid).

To qualify for a scholarship an individual must have received or will receive an Associate’s Degree from an Illinois community college, have at least a 3.0 grade point, be recommended by an Illinois community college, be a resident of the state of Illinois and be admitted to McKendree College.

Founded in 1828, McKendree College is located 20 minutes east of St. Louis, in Lebanon, Illinois.  McKendree offers 40 areas of study to students from all corners of the United States and many international countries.


The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is sponsoring the Motivating Undergraduates in Science and Technology (MUST) Program, offering support to undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines across the United States. Program participants receive a scholarship, NASA internship and access to a wealth of professional development opportunities. The Program offers:

*A one year competitive scholarship* covering up to one-half of tuition and fees, not to exceed $10,000 per academic year. The scholarship is renewable through the student's junior year pro-vided that all eligibility criteria continue to be met.

*Support from MUST Professional and Academic Support System (PASS)* providing scholars with an online student community and professional development/leadership training.

*A $6,000 (10-week summer internship stipend) to participate* plus transportation and location allowance not to exceed $1,000. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a paid intern-ship at one of ten nationwide NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) centers.

*Invaluable resources, insight, and experience to further STEM education and career aspirations from the MUST Consortium*, comprised of three member organizations: the *Hispanic College Fund*, the *United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation*, and the *Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers*.

Eligibility Requirements:
   *  Be a U.S. citizen. Students from underrepresented groups  (women, minorities, persons with disabilities, and individuals from rural and low-income communities) are encouraged to apply.
   *  Reside in the United States or a U.S. Territory.
   *  Be a college freshman, sophomore or junior and hold full-time academic status at an accredited college or university for the 2009-2010 academic year.
   *  Earn and maintain a cumulative grade point average of no less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (un-weighted).

The Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association Student Scholarship Award and Community College Scholarship Award.  The Student Scholarship Award is for students pursuing a 4 year degree in land surveying or in a related science.   The Community College Scholarship is for students pursuing a degree associated with the land surveying profession.   Applications are due by December 1.    Students may come to the DACC Foundation Office to pick up an application.

The makers of Tylenol have an opportunity for $250,000 in scholarships to healthcare students.

The Institute for Humane Studies (IHS)  is offering:   Paid internships in multiple fields and disciplines   * Scholarships of up to $12,000* for undergraduate and graduate students.  The posters and fliers can be found in the DACC Foundation office on the 2nd floor of Vermilion Hall .  From SIU-C offers two $1,000 scholarships to DACC students who are planning on entering SIUC this
summer and/or fall. They have to have been accepted by FEB. 1st and carry at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, (4.375 on a 5.0). They can see Alice Cowan, DACC Counseling/Advisement Dept., LH  104A, to be nominated. Deadline is Jan. 27th.  From SIU-C - Tuition and fee waivers for juniors at SIUC, majoring in Rehabilitation Services.Contact DACC Foundation.


Carle Foundation Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship - $1,000/year to full-time students enrolled in an approved healthcare field.   $500/year to half-time students enrolled in an approved health care field.    Applicants must be residents of Illinois.   Applications can accessed at www.carle.org/give/volunteer/scholarship.aspx.   The deadline is April 1 each year.

Illinois Community College Faculty Association:
The ICCFA awards six $1000 scholarships to students attending Illinois community colleges during the 2007-2008 academic year.  Criteria for the scholarships and applications are available at the Foundation office. The deadline for submission is each August 17.

Champaign-Urbana Business and Professional Women's Club Scholarship* -  This scholarship is primarily based on need.   Women returning to school for more education are especially encouraged to apply.   Applications are available in the DACC Foundation Office.   A copy of your most recent academic transcript and 2-3  letters of recommendation from non-family members are required.   The deadline for applying is May 15, 2009.

Roscoe Pulliam Memorial Scholarship (SIUC Alumni Association) *- Criteria for this scholarship is as follows:  1) Child, grandchild or sibling to an alumnus of SIUC who is a current member of the SIU Alumni Association.  2) An admitted or currently enrolled undergraduate student registered for a minimum of 12 semester hours.    3) Transfer students should have a cum. Rebecca and Jerry Kill Alumni Association Scholarship (SIUC Alumni Association)* - Criteria for this scholarship is as follows:  1) Incoming transfer student admitted to SIUC for the fall 2009 semester.  2) 3.0 cum. Stahlschmidt Family Legacy Scholarship (SIUE Alumni Association)* - Applicants must be incoming freshman or transfer students to SIUE and must be enrolled full-time.  Applicants will be judged on financial need, GPA, ACT/SAT scores, community service, after-school activities and essay questions.  Applications are available in the DACC Foundation Office or online at www.siue.edu/alumni/alumni_awards_scholarship.html.    The deadline is February 28, 2009.

Center for Athletic Injury Research (CAIR) Scholarship (Carle Foundation Hospital Auxiliary) *- $1,000/year to full-time students enrolled in the following healthcare fields:  Athletic training, nursing, pre-med, physical therapy and sports psychology.    Applicants must either be an employee/spouse/child of Carle Foundation/Carle Clinic or a resident of Champaign, Piatt, Vermilion, Ford, Douglas, McLean or Edgar county.   Applications can accessed at www.carle.org/give/volunteer/scholarship.aspx.   The deadline is April 1, 2009.

John W. Maitland, Jr.-Joseph F. Warner Long-Term Care Nurses Scholarship Fund (Illinois Health Care Association IHCA)* -  Up to ten scholarships with award amounts up to $1,000/scholarship will be awarded to individuals seeking to pursue nursing degrees and employment in long-term care in Illinois.   Must have been accepted into a nursing program.   Must be working in an IHCA-member assisted living, long-term care facility or DD facility/program either full-time or part-time or be a full-time student in a nursing program and have expressed an interest in long-term care nursing.   Applications are available in the DACC Foundation Office or online at www.ihca.com.   The deadline is June 15, 2009.
