COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will train students to respond to releases or potential releases of hazardous materials and have the training to respond defensively without trying to stop their release.  Upon completion the student will be eligible for certification at the operations level through the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office.  Practical evaluations included.  Prerequisite: FIRE160 or FIRE102

COURSE OBJECTIVES / GOALS:

At completion of this course the student will have an understanding of the laws, regulations, and standards involved in hazardous materials.  The student will also recognize the role operations play in a hazardous materials incident.

EVALUATION:

Scheduled quizzes over assigned materials will be given as well as a comprehensive final exam.  The final exam will count as one-third of final grade.  Research paper will be done.  Students will be graded on class participation and practical evaluations as well.
