COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Improvement of writing skills, emphasizing both composition and review of grammar.  Placement is preliminary until a writing sample has been examined by the instructor during the first week of class.  Vocational credit cannot be used to fulfill the Communications requirement for the transfer Associate degree.  Keyboarding skills required.

PREREQUISITES:

Place into ENGL 121 with approved and documented placement test scores (writing & reading) or by completing DEVE 099 with a grade of C or better.

COURSE OBJECTIVES / GOALS:

The student will become proficient in the writing of sentences, paragraphs, basic letters, and short essays/reports. The student will understand and follow the text format of making a point and supporting that point.

The student will study and then use various methods of support in at least six paragraphs, memos, letters, and/or essays/reports.  The student will learn to proofread and evaluate his/her own writing.

EVALUATION:

Evaluation is based on in-class writings, daily/weekly quizzes, out of class writings, unit tests, and the final exam.
