COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Discussion, demonstration and practice of radiologic procedures of the geriatric, pediatric, trauma, surgical and bed-bound patient. Includes techniques for: patient assessment, positioning principles, identifying corresponding radiographic anatomy, operating standard R/F equipment in a non-routine manner and operating mobile R/F equipment.
PREREQUISITES:
Successful Completion of RDTC106 and RDTC110

COURSE OBJECTIVES / GOALS:
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
  • Identify external landmarks and correlate to underlying anatomy of interest
  • Accurately position the part and patient to demonstrate the anatomy of interest
  • Accurately calculate the kVp and mAs for a given procedure
  • Identify the pertinent radiographic anatomy and basic pathology on images
  • Properly use ancillary positioning devices such as markers, calipers, sponges, etc.
  • Practice proper radiation safety and follow the ALARA principle
  • Establish rapport with patients and acquire medical history pertinent to the procedure
  • Appropriately assess patient condition to determine procedural protocol revisions
  • Adjust procedural protocols to accommodate pediatric or geriatric patients
  • Properly manipulate mobile R/F equipment
  • Properly manipulate standard R/F equipment for non-routine procedures
