INFO110 Internet & Telecommunications (Fall, Spring and Summer) -- 3.0 hours This is an introductory course in Telecommunications and Internet usage.  The focus on the course is on data communications.  Topics to be emphasized include the hardware, software and media that are required for local and/or wide area networks.  The lab portion of class will cover the basics of communicating over the Internet.  Internet searches, e-mail, file transfer protocol, browsers, cloud storage, web services, and other data transmission technologies are used for labs and student projects which provide practical experience.

INFO133 Cisco Network Academy I (Fall and Spring) -- 3.0 hours This is the first course in the Cisco Networking Academies, designed to provide students with classroom and laboratory experience in current and emerging networking technology. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, safety, networking, network terminology and protocols, network standards, LANs, WANs, OSI models, cabling, cabling tools, router, router programming, topologies, and IP addressing. In addition, instruction and training are provided in the proper care, maintenance, and use of networking software, tools, and equipment and local, state, and federal safety, building, and environmental codes and regulations.

INFO135 Concepts in Programming: C ++ (Fall and Spring) -- 3.0 hours Introductory course in computer programming for all business related majors, providing a basic knowledge of the fundamentals of programming.  Various number systems are studied to see how they are used in a computer.  Program files will be compiled and executed.  Problem solving is discussed and flowcharts are used to introduce logic concepts.  Emphasis is on common applications using the C++ language and a user approach.

INFO154 Advanced C++ Programming (Spring) -- 3.0 hours This course introduces the student to C++ pointers, structured data, file operations and classes. This will take the student’s programming skills to the level of controlling memory resources with pointers as well using file operations for input and output. Dynamic data structures will be covered with structures and classes. Prerequisites: INFO135

INFO163 Client Operating Systems (Fall and Spring) -- 3.0 hoursThis course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement, administer, and troubleshoot information systems that incorporate Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional.  Students will learn about and use the various tools for installing, administering, and configuring Windows 2000 including the Microsoft Management Console, Task Scheduler, Control Panel, and Registry Editor.  Students will also learn about and manage print devices, shared and NTFS permissions, data storage and disk-quotas, EFS, remote access, and troubleshooting hardware devices and drivers. INFO164 Visual Basic Programming (Fall) -- 3.0 hours This course will first cover the basic principles and techniques for object oriented software development. Students will have a better understanding of what features are essential for Object Oriented Programming and which languages support the feature. Then, the course focuses on developing intermediate-level skills for students new to Windows programming. It is designed to introduce the student to the Visual Basic application development environment. It provides instruction on the Visual Basic language with the hands-on experience and skills development necessary to build projects.

INFO174 Internet Development Tools-HTML and CSS (Spring) -- 3.0 hours Students in this course will design and code World Wide Web pages using HTML (Hypertext Markup Language),XHTML (Extensible Hypertext Markup Language).CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)will be used to create code which can be interpreted by Web Browser software. Projects will entail creating web pages that are informative, manageable and user friendly. Topics for discussion will include HTML editors, converters, and generators. Labs and student projects provide practical experience.

INFO183 Cisco Network Academy II (Fall and Spring) -- 3.0 hours This is the second course in the Cisco Networking Academies. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, network terminology and protocols, network standards organizations and specifications, LANs, WANs, OSI models, Ethernet, Token Ring, Fiber Distributed Data Interface, TCP/IP Addressing Protocol, dynamic routing, routing and the network administrator’s role and function. In addition, instruction and training are provided in the proper care, maintenance, and use of networking software, tools, and equipment and local, state, and federal safety, building, and environmental codes and regulations.

INFO190 Worksite Seminar (Spring) -- 1.0 hour The student has the opportunity to tour and observe professionals in the information systems area.  This provides valuable exposure to business and industry as students continue in their planned curriculum. Speakers from businesses will also further the students experiences.
Prerequisites: Consent from instructor required.  Must have 15 hours towards an INFO degree.

INFO199 Apprenticeship Worksite Experience (As needed) -- 1.0 hour Students who are participating in an apprenticeship program started at the secondary or postsecondary level are the only ones eligible to enroll in this class. Depending on the design of the apprenticeship program, the student may be required to participate in worksite activities during the Summer or regular semesters. Apprenticeship students can enroll in this class a maximum of 4 times to cover worksite activities.  This class requires a minimum of 75 hours at the worksite during the semester of enrollment. For those students who know that they will be working more than 150 hours at the worksite during the semester, they should enroll in INFO 299.  Enrollment is contingent upon approval of Division Dean.

INFO203 Cisco Network Academy III (Fall and Spring) -- 3.0 hours This is the third course in the Cisco Networking Academies. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, Novell IPX protocol configuration on routers, Fast Ethernet, LAN switching methods, LAN segmentation with bridges, routers, and switches. In addition, instruction and training are provided in the operation and benefits of Spanning Tree protocol and virtual LANs.

INFO213 Server Operating Systems (Fall and Spring) -- 3.0 hoursThis course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement, administer, and troubleshoot information systems that incorporate Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.  Students will learn how to install and administer Active Directory services and how to manage Active Directory objects.  Students will also use Microsoft Management Console to monitor system performance, to administer Internet Information Services, and to administer accounts and policies. INFO224 Advanced Internet Development (Fall) -- 3.0 hours Students in this course will expand on their knowledge of Web site design and implementation using Web Authoring Software. The focus on Microsoft Expression Web will allow students to add interactivity and professional style to commercial and/or personal Web sites. Topics include creating a  local site, adding Web pages, links and images. Table and page layout, using CSS, forms, templates, and style sheets will also be covered. Labs and student projects provide practical experience.

INFO230 Web Programming ( Spring) -- 3.0 hours Students in this course will enhance their knowledge of web site design and implementation using server side scripting language PHP and the database tool MySQL. Content Management Systems will also be covered. Students will be able to develop database driven Web Sites as well as understand how Content Management Systems implement PHP and MySQL to create seamless web page delivery systems. INFO244 Advanced Windows Programming (Spring) -- 3.0 hours This course will cover techniques and strategies for developing professional programs using the Visual Basic programming language and graphical user interfaces.  Students will learn efficient, responsive applications that feature the latest Windows GUIs working within the user’s criteria.

INFO245 Employment Seminar (Fall) -- 1.0 hour This course involves a study of contemporary problems in the general field of employment. Future graduates are counseled in career search and development techniques as well as employment opportunities. Students are urged to share their concerns and experiences encountered while preparing for employment.

INFO249 Help Desk Skills (Fall) -- 3.0 hoursThis course is intended for anyone involved in managing an Internet presence through an e-business site.  Find out what e-business means to companies of all sizes, now and in the future.  Examine the history and roots of e-commerce while also looking at the infrastructure issues that impact e-commerce.  Different types of Internet-based commercial transactions are explored, as well as legal, ethical and social issues. INFO253 Managing a Network Environment ( ) -- 3.0 hoursThis course provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to install, manage, monitor, configure, and troubleshoot DNS, DHCP, Remote Access, Network Protocols, IP Routing, and WINS in a Windows 2003 network infrastructure.  In addition, students will learn the skills required to manage, monitor, and troubleshoot Network Address Translation and Certificate Services. INFO263 Network Security ( ) -- 3.0 hoursThis course provides students with a comprehensive overview of computer and network security issues including the numerous types of attacks computerrs are vulnerable to, the types of attacker profiles, and the hardware and software defense solutions available.  The course begins with an overview of the subject including security goals, the importance of security, intruder profiles, and defense mechanisms.  The topics subsequently covered include security and the individual personal computer in both the home and corporate environments.  This includes protecting the single device from the threats of data theft, viruses and spyware, techniques of authentication and security patch management.  Next, corporate security is presented including policy issues invovlving e-mail, Internet access, passwords, Incident Response and Disaster Recovery.  Internet Security and Network Security are addressed focusing on the threats to WIN and LAN networks and methods of protecting each type of network.  Finally, the class pulls all of the concepts together, presenting a picture of "Total Security". INFO273 Cisco Network Academy IV (Fall and Spring) -- 3.0 hours This is the fourth course in the Cisco Networking Academies. Instruction includes, but is not limited to, WAN services, LAPB, Frame Relay terms and features, Integrated Services Digital Network, router commands to monitor and configure Frame Relay LMIs, maps, and subinterfaces, Novell IPX protocol configuration on routers, Fast Ethernet, LAN switching methods, LAN segmentation with bridges, routers, and switches.

INFO285 Database Concepts: SQL (Spring) -- 3.0 hours Database models, using a database system, commercial databases, database processing and procedures, and integration of database systems will be discussed. File processing techniques, administration of database structures, backup and recovery, queries, and database analysis and design will also be covered. Labs, working with SQL, will be assigned to emphasize these topics.

INFO289 Implementing Information Technologies (Spring) -- 3.0 hoursA team concept course, planning and writing web sites and associated pages across various platforms.  Different applications are used, such as selling services, selling physical goods, sites for Internet payment mechanisms, or financial services. INFO290 Supervised Occupational Experience (Fall and Spring) -- 3.0 hours Student field assignments are made in local information systems installations. At least 225 hours of worksite training will provide the student with information systems experience prior to entering the job market. This course is usually taken during the student’s final semester at DACC.

INFO293 Wireless Networking (Spring) -- 3.0 hours This course provides students with the conceptual knowledge and hands-on skills needed to work with wireless technology in a network administration environment. The course covers fundamental topics such as planning, designing, installing, securing, and configuring wireless LAN’s. It also details common wireless LAN uses including maintenance, security, and business applications.

INFO295 Special Topics in Information Systems (As needed) -- 3.0 hours This course will address new programming and hardware issues and developments. It will concentrate on state-of-the-art technologies of direct benefit to the Information Systems student.  Note: credit varies from 1 to 3 hours.
