 Catalog - Dual Credit

Dual credit means that a student is taking a class that will be used for high school credit and college credit. Dual credit at Danville Area Community College follows two formats, Dual Enrollment in transfer courses and dual enrollment in career and technical programs. Junior and Senior level high school students are eligible for these programs.

Students enrolled in Dual Enrollment transfer courses, which are university-transfer eligible courses, will have their course tuition waived. However, some courses will still require a course fee to be paid and or textbooks to be purchased.

Dual Enrollment program courses may be taken in a couple of different ways (per approval by the high school and DACC):

  1. A regularly scheduled high school class may be approved for dual credit if the course meets the guidelines of a DACC course. These courses will be set up by the high school and the College.
  2. Students may take a DACC course on campus, in an interactive video classroom, at a satellite location, or online.

For more information about Dual Enrollment transfer courses, high school students should contact their high school guidance counselor or the DACC Admissions office at 217.443.8800.

Dual enrollment in career and technical programs offers dual credit for programs which traditionally lead to an Associate degree. Students register for dual enrollment career and technical courses during their regular course selection period at their high school.

By the time a high school student completes two years of dual enrollment career and technical programming, he or she may have earned from 12-16 college credit hours toward an Associate degree. There are minimal personal expenses associated with this course of study. Tuition, fees, books and, in most cases, transportation expenses are paid for by the high school district. The financial benefits realized by program participants can be in excess of $1500.

For more information about the dual enrollment career and technical programs students should contact their high school guidance counselor, Nancy Boesdorfer, DACC Tech Prep Coordinator, at 217.443.8582, or Kay Smoot, VVEDS System Director, at 217.442.0461.
